dc.description.abstract Transportation systems should be designed to move people and goods in an efficient and safe manner. Safety on roads and highways can be measured in terms of the number of traffic crashes that occur in a time period. Although there are many factors that could contribute to the occurrence of a vehicle crash, human factors are usually the most associated with a vehicle crash. Some of the common causes related to human factors that are associated with vehicle crash occurrence are distraction, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. Identifying drivers whose behavior and characteristics make them prone to being involved in vehicle crashes may be helpful in reducing the number of injuries and fatalities along roads and highways.
