Comportamiento estructural de edificios industriales típicos propiedad de PRIDCO sujeto a cargas de viento y terremoto

Abstract

Typical industrial buildings owned by PRIDCO are used by various industries and are located all over the island of Puerto Rico. Many of them were abandoned and are in the process of deterioration. The government of Puerto Rico aims to encourage the establishment of industries in these facilities and it is required to evaluate whether they meet with the new code regulations, because many of these structures were designed in the 1970s when code requirements on wind required a basic wind speed of 117 miles per hour and earthquake loads requirements were minimum. For that reason these structures are in danger of failing in a natural disaster. The main purpose of this project is to analyze and verify the structural design of several structures located in Mayagüez which are property of PRIDCO. The verification will be performed using the codes used when the construction took place and then will be evaluated using the current code regulations and then recommendations to strengthen the structures and comply with the new load requirements will be presented.

Los edificios industriales típicos cuyo dueño es PRIDCO son utilizados por diversas industrias y están localizados en toda la isla de Puerto Rico. Muchos de ellos fueron abandonados y están en proceso de deterioro. El Gobierno de Puerto Rico tiene como meta incentivar la creación de industrias que puedan utilizar estas facilidades y es necesario evaluar si cumplen con las nuevas regulaciones del código debido a que muchas de estas estructuras fueron diseñadas en la década de 1970, cuando los requisitos del código para viento requerían una velocidad básica de diseño de 117 millas por hora y para las cargas sísmicas los requerimientos eran mínimos. Por esa razón estas estructuras están en peligro de fallar en un desastre natural. El objetivo principal de este proyecto es analizar y verificar el diseño estructural de varias estructuras localizadas en Mayagüez propiedad de PRIDCO. La verificación se realizará utilizando los códigos que se utilizaron cuando la construcción se realizó y luego utilizando las regulaciones de los códigos vigentes. Finalmente se presentaran recomendaciones para fortalecer las estructuras y cumplir con los nuevos requisitos de carga.
