Abstract
We consider physical situation of homogeneous, isotropic decaying turbulence in an incompressible fluid for computational study. It is well established that laminar and turbulent flows of Newtonian fluids are governed by Navier-Stokes equations. We use Navier-Stokes equations for simulating the physical situation. As no external forcing is present in the present situation, turbulence decays in time from its initial conditions. The time dependent Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved in the Fourier wave vector (k) and time (t) domain using different initial conditions for velocity field in the wave vector domain. The initial conditions are generated using the initial known shape for energy spectrum. Time evolutions of various statistical properties of isotropic turbulence are obtained from the numerical data and are presented in this thesis.
