PublicationPercepción de los directores escolares y personal docente del sistema escolar público del distrito escolar de Isabela respecto la agricultura como carrera profesional en puerto rico( 2007) Abreu Santiago, José D. ; Villamil Freytes, José A. ; College of Agricultural Sciences ; Padilla Vélez, David ; Santiago Andino, Edly ; Department of Agricultural Education ; González, MilagritosThis descriptive study using a questionnaire as an instrument had the purpose to determine the perception of the personnel of Isabela school district about agriculture as a professional career in Puerto Rico. The district consists of 513 teachers and 19 school directors of 19 schools (elementary and secondary levels). The study sample was 85 teachers and eight school directors. They completed the questionnaire prepared and validated by the researcher. The information obtained by the questionnaire was tabulated and analyzed. Results indicates that the majority of the study sample were female, with average age of 42 years old and mainly living in Isabela. The majority had a bachelor degree with an average of 15 years of experience. The majority indicated that agriculture must be taught in all levels of the school system because incorporates scientific principles that are essential for the country economy, and provides work opportunities for students and graduates. With this results the scientific and technical concepts of agriculture must be presented in all subjects and school level.
