The structure of elite athletes in Puerto Rico is a topic that has always brought many questions and few answers to Puerto Rican athletes. According to the literature and Law No. 119, the development of high-level competitive athletes should be covered by the state and the country's Olympic Committee. For this reason, the purpose of the study was to learn the perception of a Puerto Rican Olympic medalist about the Puerto Rican Sports Structure (PSS) offered by the Olympic Committee. In the data collection methods, an interview was conducted with a Puerto Rican Olympic medalist athlete. As a requirement for the research, the athlete had to have won the medal after Law No. 119 was implemented in 2001. Some of the points that were observed in the interview were the athlete's preparation in the Olympic cycles, the financing of his career, the results he achieved thanks to the Olympic Committee, planning with his work team, among others. The results of the interview reflected the scarcity of support for high-performance athletes in Puerto Rico and the lack of aid that these athletes face when preparing for the Olympic Games. At the same time, it was possible to gather information on the advantage that an athlete has of belonging to the “Albergue Olímpico” School, in terms of preparation and well-being in sport.
