Ward - a web based application for accessing remote sensing archive data

This work presents distributed n-tier architecture based web application, named WARD, providing ubiquitous and secured access to archived remote sensing data at the UPRM Laboratory for Applied Remote Sensing and Image Processing (LARSIP). Remote sensing data is usually accompanied by auxiliary data that either elaborate the scene in which data was acquired or provide additional information. WARD provides a platform to manage imagery, field data and other auxiliary data to support remote sensing research. This application provides the end users ability to upload the data pertinent to a remote sensing campaign and group them accordingly and can have access to archived data as well. The application is built using ASP.NET and the .NET framework with the backend in the form of SQL Server 2008 and the NTFS file system. End users have facility to organize data in custom hierarchical structure and can also extend the application by defining plugin modules that can process the data file being downloaded. WARD will be used to manage data from the Guanica forest and Parguera reefs in support of the research being done at UPRM LARSIP under NASA EPSCoR.
