    The culture and development of a country are disclosed through the traditions of its people and infrastructure changes over time. Recently, it has been of considerable importance, the promotion of rehabilitating historic buildings to preserve the legacies of past generations while adapting them to serve a new use in accordance with current building codes regulations and requirements. This Project focuses on the rehabilitation of a historic building located in Milwaukee, WI, for which it was proposed a change in use as a repository for archives. In order to meet the seismic requirements per the International Building Code 2009 and the proposed new use, it was necessary to model and analyze the structural system in the elastic range, varying the loading conditions to which it would be exposed including loads resulting from the occurrence of an earthquake programmed for the city of Mayaguez, PR. Based on the results obtained from various analyses, certain structural elements had to be added to the building in order to increase its loads resistance. Additional recommendations were suggested as part of a complete evaluation of the necessary improvements needed for the structure to comply under the new use, while preserving its historical distinctiveness.
