Publication Iterative multiple criteria simulation optimization in manufacturing(2016) Niño Pérez, Esmeralda; Cabrera Ríos, Mauricio; College of Engineering; Medina Avilés, Lourdes A.; Suárez, Oscar Marcelo; Department of Industrial Engineering; Vásquez, PedroThis work approaches the multiple criteria simulation optimization problem in manufacturing in an iterative fashion. Such problem entails using an optimization strategy to manipulate the parameters of a simulation model to arrive to the best possible configurations in the presence of several performance measures in conflict. The system can be a real manufacturing setting or a computer simulation of it, albeit the latter is the emphasis of this work. Pareto Efficiency conditions are used in an iterative framework based on experimental design and pairwise comparison. In particular, this work improves upon the use of Data Envelopment Analysis to determine the efficient frontier as well as the use of a single-pass algorithm previously proposed by our research group. The results show a rapid convergence to a more precise characterization of the Pareto-efficient solutions. The algorithm is illustrated by a series of cases involving simulation of manufacturing systems as well as prototyping by 3D printing.
