Diaprepes abbreviatus (L.) is an insect pest of numerous crops, including citrus, ornamentals, vegetables and others. In the present study, feeding and oviposition no-choice and choice tests were performed to evaluate the behavior of D. abbreviatus on two peach and one citrus cultivars. In the foliage feeding no- choice test, the adult fed on leaf discs of the two peach cultivars, but its rate of damage was smaller than on Valencia orange. In the foliage feeding choice test, the insect preferred to feed on the citrus. Diaprepes abbreviatus laid egg masses on peach and citrus leaf discs and strips in the oviposition no-choice test, preferring the latter crop as an oviposition substrate; however, in the choice test, the insect preferred to lay eggs on peach while it fed on the citrus. In root-feeding tests, the larvae fed on Cleopatra mandarin and Florida Guard peach rootstocks, but the damage was more severe on the citrus than on peach, the latter only with minor damage to the roots. The larvae were larger and a higher number of them were recovered on Cleopatra mandarin rootstock, thus suggesting that the peach rootstock Florida Guard has tolerance and/or antibiosis to the insect attack.
