Publication Desempeño productivo de conejos alimentados con dietas con distinto contenido de almidón y suplementados con ácidos orgánicos en el agua de bebida(2014) Ocasio Vega, César E.; Riquelme Villagrán, Ernesto O.; College of Agricultural Sciences; Macchiavelli, Raúl E.; Latorre, José R.; Department of Animal Science; Plaza, María de L.The experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the productive performance of growing rabbits fed diets of different starch content and supplemented with organic acids in the drinking water. Forty-eight New Zealand White rabbits (averaging seven weeks old and 800 g live weight) were distributed, by sex, into 24 elevated cages and randomly assigned to the experimental treatments that consisted in two diets of high (AA) or low (BA) starch content and either none (AG), acetic (0.75 %, Ac) or citric (0.75 %, Ct) acids as additives in the drinking water. The experiment lasted 49 days. Data were collected on weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, carcass weight, dressing percentage, liver weight, stomach weight and pH, cecal weight and pH, and dry matter percentage of stomach, cecal and rectal contents. The experiment was statistically evaluated as a 2 (diets) x 3 (additives in the drinking water) factorial arrangement of treatments. There was no mortality or gastrointestinal disorders during the experiment. Daily gains, feed intake, feed conversion, carcass weight, dressing percentage, liver weight, stomach weight, and cecal weight were not affected by treatments. Citric acid increased dry matter of the stomach content and decreased dry matter of the cecal content. There were several, almost significant, diet x additive interactions that deserve further investigation.
