An educational manual based on technical and updated information on sweet potato cultivation adapted to the conditions of the island was developed and used for training. A questionnaire was used to measure the objectives and it was found that the extension agents, mostly between 11 to 20 years of experience, have not been invited to work in the cultivation of sweet potatoes, but they would be willing to receive training on the subject. Before and after training, they presented a good knowledge and fully agree that “good management practices could make a difference in production”. The same way, they presented a perception agreeing that there are barriers that hinder the development of sweet potato cultivation in Puerto Rico, especially they lack of curriculum materials. The extension agents fully agree that there is a lack of knowledge of the farmers towards the cultivation of sweet potatoes
