Publication Clutter elimination methods and data merging for x band weather radar network in complex terrains(2011) Acosta-Coll, Melisa A.; Cruz-Pol, Sandra L.; College of Engineering; Colom-Ustariz, José; Rodríguez Solís, Rafael A.; Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Hajek, Darrell W.This work describes two methods for ground clutter elimination and the data merging of X- band weather radar network placed in western Puerto Rico. These radars have single polarization and do not have Doppler capabilities. The first clutter elimination method considers individual radars. This method determines the minimum number of files required to produce an optimal clutter map and what would be the best time period of the day to obtain the optimum. The second method takes into consideration the networked environment, a geographical grid of the overlapping zone is determined, to study the possibility of creating a new clutter map, making use of the information about the common grid, obtained by the radars in clear air mode conditions. The information from the radars is integrated to produce a mosaic map, where the points in the overlapping zones between the radars were identified and merged using the highest value.
