This study describes factors that influence desertion of a group of 4-H senior member in the West Region of Puerto Rico. It was found that the majority of youth seniors are totally in disagreement with the existence of factors that can cause their desertion, mean while the group responsible indicates that sports and video games may cause desertion in 4-H youth. However, youth indicated the lack of activities and motivation on behalf of their leader as a factor to consider. Activities they like the most are the fieldtrips and those related to the environment because they are motivated when sharing with others, although the responsible of the group thinks that is the extension agent who motivates them. It is recommended to provide them with more agricultural activities, involve them in decision making, and encourage extensionists to listen youth perspectives because the adolescent need motivation while been part of groups.
