Publication Optical spectroscopy of granular pharmaceutical compositions(2015) Rodríguez-Villanueva, Sandra M.; Lysenko, Sergiy; College of Arts and Science - Science; Romañach, Rodolfo; Fernández, Félix; Department of Physics; Méndez, RafaelThis investigation was focused on the optical properties of pharmaceutical compositions in order to identify correlations for their chemical and physical properties. Two experiments were made, one consisted of tablets at different shear treatment and compression forces and the other with tablets composed of different acetaminophen mixtures (APAP). Angle Resolved Elastic Light Scattering (ARELS) was measured to tablets at different shear and compression. Where an increase was found in the isotropy of scattered light at higher shear and compression. For tablets at different APAP concentrations ARELS and Near Infrared (NIR) spectra were measured. The relation obtained showed a decrease of the integrated light scattering for tablets at higher APAP concentration. It was possible to describe the morphology of the tablets of different APAP concentration using fractal geometry. Fractal analysis showed an increment in the fractal dimension as APAP concentration increases. NIR transmission measurements evidenced a change in slope and baseline of the spectra that corresponds to the physical properties of tablets.
