Sport as a masculine institution, serves as a site to reproduce and teach socially constructed roles. This means that the reproduction of roles based on unequal relationships tend to limit the full development of individuals within sport. There is not sufficient literature that describes the ways in which men manifest masculinities within the sport context. The purpose of this ethnographic study was to describe athlete men’s manifestations of masculinities within the sport of college Olympic weightlifting in Puerto Rico. The objectives of this study were to: 1) know which form of masculinity is more common within college Olympic weightlifting; 2) know how masculinities were manifested by athlete men and; 3) know the main characteristics of masculinities within college Olympic weightlifting in Puerto Rico. R.W. Connell concepts were used as a guide to understand the manifestations of masculinities. These concepts suggest that within any given group or culture, masculinity can manifest itself in more than one way. The study found that a form o Hegemonic Masculinity was more common within this context. Furthermore, the behavior and speech of the participants demonstrated to be adhered to patterns of traditional masculinities, characterized by sexist attitudes towards women and other men.
