Publication Agrowebpr - a web-based application for connecting Puerto Rico’s food supply chain(2014) Vazquez-Rosario, Pedro X.; Rodríguez-Martínez, Manuel; College of Engineering; Resto, Pedro; Rivera, Pedro; Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Orellana, LynetteThis work presents distributed three-tier architecture based web application, named AgroWebPR, providing ubiquitous and secured access to the distribution and purchasing of agricultural products. In this era of technology it’s important to be able to have communication via these means, one of which is the Internet. AgroWebPR provides a platform that lets all aspects of the supply chain to communicate, whether it is selling or purchasing a variety of products. The application is built using the PHP programming language with the back-end in the form of Apache Web Server. End users have the facility to add product that they grow (farmers) or manufacture and determine price, quantity, and availability dates, all through the use of this application. AgroWebPR accommodates farmers, manufacturers and point-of-sale locations thus, improving the supply chain communication for agricultural products. The number of users involved in selling-purchasing activities is expected to increase as more users become familiar with the application.
