This research was carried out to determine the possible effects of foliar applications of salicylic acid on the ‘MD-2’ variety pineapple plant and fruit at different physiological stages. The experimental design was in complete randomized blocks with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The six treatments were: Single application of salicylic acid before flowering, Multiple applications of salicylic acid before flowering, Single application of salicylic acid at flowering, Multiple applications of salicylic acid from flowering to harvest, Multiple applications from sowing to harvest and Control treatment without salicylic acid. The solution used was made of 250 mg of salicylic acid, 1 ml of non-ionic surfactant per liter of water, with application of 100 ml per plant. The treatment that resulted in more positive effects was the single application at flowering, increasing the length of the D leaf, the number of live and dry leaves, crown chlorophyll content, the leaf concentration of calcium, sodium and manganese the luminosity of the peel, the components of a*, b*, c* and h* in the color space, as well as in titratable acidity. Application of salicylic acid at other times during the crop season also affected some of the variables evaluated. These results show that application of salicylic acid pre-harvest may be used to enhance specific plant growth and fruit quality characteristics in ‘MD-2’ pineapple that may be advantageous for growers and in the marketing of the fruit.
