Análisis de género en la región agrícola de Mayagüez: El caso del municipio de Moca, una mirada a las actividades productivas
(2011) Cintrón Berdecía, Sol T.; González Martínez, Gladys M.; College of Agricultural Sciences; González Soto, Jorge A.; Rodríguez Pérez, Robinson; Rodríguez Rodríguez, María del C.; Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology; Pérez Muñoz, Fernando
The present work has collected empirical data about the variations per gender between men and women in the productive labor and decision making of farming enterprises in the Moca municipality. Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis it was possible to verify that the access to productive factors is different for women and men, with men having a comparative advantage with respect to women. Thus, the participation of women in the agriculture has been described as a non-permanent one, with low salary, complimentary and limited to tasks that require low labor power. In addition, it was observed that women use to share the administration of the farm in order to conciliate their role within the farm and their home. An exhortation is made, to establish the analysis with a gender perspective as usual and customary when designing public policies. In this way the available economic resources could be re-assigned and supplied in a more efficient and equitable way between genders.
