Alzheimer’s disease is one that is progressive in nature and that has affected thousands of people around the world, with a significant increase predicted in the coming years. Numerous studies are currently being conducted world-wide; however, no research team has presently found a definitive cure. This thesis presents a characterization of Alzheimer’s disease using microarrays. Multiple Criteria Optimization, Network Optimization, Relationship Matrix, and Rank Order Clustering Algorithm were the four methods used. These methods allowed us to examine potential biomarker genes and MiRNAs to determine how they relate to each other. This thesis also provides a way to relate potential biomarker genes with their regulators (MiRNAs) and analyze their relationship effectively. A cost model to assess the economic burden of illness is presented in addition. This study contributes to the characterization of Alzheimer’s disease in order to further its understanding and to support the future development of effective treatments.
