    Evaluación cuantitativa de presas potenciales, tipo artrópodo, y análisis paisajista del hábitat potencial para la Reinita de Bosque Enano (Setophaga angelae) en Puerto Rico

    Setophaga angelae, the Elfin-woods warbler (EWWA), is an insectivorous bird endemic to Puerto Rico. Currently, two isolated populations of this species are found: one at the El Yunque National Forest, the other in the Maricao Commonwealth Forest (MCF). This work assessed the potential preys in habitats from MCF with both high and low density of EWWA, using the method developed by Johnson in 2000. The higher values of diversity and abundance of arthropods were found in habitat with less EWWA occurrence. This result suggests that the potential preys in the EWWA habitats do not limit its distribution. A map of potential habitat of EWWA in PR was developed. The EWWA’s possible habitat comprises 9.5% of the total area of the Island. The map does not show as potential habitat for EWWA the connecting corridor between the Cordillera Central, Sierra de Cayey and Sierra de Luquillo. This could be a limiting factor for the distribution of the bird species.
