Development of educational resources about the shark species (𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴: 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘪) of Puerto Rico as a gateway to inform the local public

Knowledge about the shark populations of Puerto Rico is minimal. Furthermore, most of the available first-hand information is presented technically and written in English. Thus, these particulars could hinder our ability to inform the general public about the shark species of the Puerto Rican archipelago. In order to address this, we developed a series of educational and informative materials conveyed in a digestible and practical way and written in Spanish. These materials consist of a book about the sharks of Puerto Rico, a pamphlet with the most common species of the archipelago along with their life history traits, and a poster with every shark species recorded to date in Puerto Rico displayed in a series of scientific illustrations. The materials, the book in particular, can serve as a basis for educating and informing the general public about sharks in Puerto Rico. All materials are forthcoming and will be easily accessible once published by the Puerto Rico Sea Grant College Program.
