The design of a circular aperture planar reflectarray at 9.4Ghz center frequency is presented in this thesis. For the first time, an aperture coupled cross shaped patch is used as a cell element for a reflectarray antenna. A full characterization of the novel element is presented in this research; this includes the phase curve, a frequency effect study, an incident angle study, a comparison with traditional reflectarray elements, calculation of dissipative losses, and cross polarization levels. The cross patch antennas are designed with the a Rogers RT 5880 substrate, the slots are made in the ground plane, and the stubs are implemented in a Rogers RO 3006 substrate. Rogers RT 5880 substrate has a thickness of 0.508mm and a relative permittivity of 2.2, the Rogers RO 3006 has a thickness of 0.64mm and relative permittivity of 6.15. The phase distribution needed for broadside radiation for an F/D of 1 is presented. The results for the design are presented and analyzed in the thesis.
