Publication Influencia del tempo y ritmos musicales latinos en la frecuencia cardíaca y percepción de esfuerzo durante el ejercicio en estudiantes universitarios(2017-06) Rivera-Pérez, Bryan O.; Soltero-Flores, Eduardo; College of Arts and Sciences - Art; Rodríguez Nogueras, Enid A.; Heredia Vargas, Héctor M.; Department of Kinesiology; Cortés Figueroa, José E.The investigation of the psychophysical and ergogenic effects of music on exercise date back to the early 20th century, when MacDougall suggested that music is a stimulus that promotes natural movement. In the 1970s, a rapid deployment of music began during the execution of physical activity and exercise. Nowadays the investigations of the influence of Latin rhythms during exercise are limited, because mostly Anglo-Saxon rhythms are used. The study aims to see the effects of Latin rhythms during exercise in heart rate and the possible psychological implications that might have on people. Among the important aspects of the study are the differences in heart rate during exercise while listening to music vs. no music and the differences in effort perception and recovery using the same condition. The Åstrand submaximal cycle ergometer test and the heart rate monitor were used to determine the participants’ heart rate at various levels and loads. Results showed that a significant difference in heart rate was not found, however there was a significant difference in effort perception during exercise in the Borg scale.
