Publication Rehabilitacion de escuelas: Relacion entre el porcentaje de muros de hormigon reforzado y el desempeño estructural.(2024-06-29) Castillo Sainz, Jonathan; Martínez Cruzado, José A.; College of Engineering; Suárez Colche, Luis E.; Zaragoza, Antonio; Guevara, José O.; Department of Civil Engineering; Cardoza Bonet, MonserrateIn January 2020, an earthquake showed the structural deficiencies of some infrastructures, among them there is a particular case that is the collapse of a school building, the Agripina Seda school located in the south of Puerto Rico collapsed, affecting the academic progress of its students. Due to the damage to various school structures, both the local government and the federal government established action plans and funds were allocated for the rehabilitation of schools. Several researchers have detected geological faults that are not registered in the Seismic Hazard Map of Puerto Rico, reporting seismic parameters that are of great contribution to the community since they provide fundamental information to consider in the rehabilitation of structures in the event of earthquakes of greater intensity than those presented in 2020. Throughout the study project, several models of a typical school in Puerto Rico were carried out, generating 3 base structures, consisting of schools with 4, 6 and 8 classrooms per floor, in which sub-models were generated assigning various percentages of reinforced concrete walls in a longitudinal direction, seeking to analyze their structural performance, achieving that with the seismic data detected by these researchers, structures can develop a level of Operational performance with a percentage of 2% of floor area in reinforced concrete walls located in the longitudinal direction of the structure.
