Publication Conversión de pulpa y mucílago del café en vermicomposta mediante el uso de la lombriz Eisenia foetida(2008) Marrero-Soto, Edrick; Monroig-Saltar, Francisco M.; College of Agricultural Sciences; González, Wigmar; Monroig, Miguel F.; Department of Crops and Agro-Environmental Sciences; López, Héctor O.The objective of the investigation is to obtain information for the establishment of a vermicompost system for the coffee processing in Puerto Rico. A complete randomized block design was used with four treatments for a period of 17 weeks. The densities studied were 0, 3, 5 and 7 kg of worms (Eisenia foetida) per cubic meter of coffee pulp. There was no significant difference in the amount of vermicompost produced. The chemical analysis carried out to the substrates established that they had 4% of N, 1% of P and 10% of K. There was no considerable difference between the chemical analysis of the vermicompost and the traditional compost. The mortality rate of the treatments was from 85 to 95% at harvest time and no reproduction was observed. More research is needed about the production of vermicompost with coffee pulp in the Island.
