Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) was first observed affecting Cocos nucifera in Puerto Rico and the island municipality of Culebra in 2006. The adaptation of this mite is quickly in the island because have multiple host, including coconut palm and bananas. The plant leaf area development is negatively affected by the R. indica feeding behavior. This mite is considered the most important pest of the Tenuipalpidae family on both crops. This study was divided into three chapters: (I) Population dynamics at the effect of abiotic factors and systemic acaricide, (II) mite population behavior on different plant species and (III) microorganisms associated with mite populations. These studies provide basic information on mite biology and interactions with the environment and other microorganism on the island and could provide insights to develop strategies to reduce the negative impact caused by R. indica on the host plant species.
