Publication Diseño de un sistema automatizado para el monitoreo continuo en tiempo real de los costos de ensamblaje de circuitos impresos(2011) Saavedra Sada, Enrique; Rullán, Agustín; College of Engineering; Hernández, William; Resto, Pedro; Padrón, Mario; Department of Industrial Engineering; Colón, SilvestreWe created a prototype of a system capable of collecting and analyzing real time assembly cost data information. We selected a printed circuit boards (PCB) assembly line available at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, known as “Fábrica Modelo”. To create this prototype the PCB line was analyzed to determine how we could obtain data information such as relevant cost and processing times, raw materials used, and the historical number of errors for each station. Once the information was obtained, we calculated the real costs. Simultaneously, some calculations were made for each station using well-known equations to obtain the real time theoretical and production costs. A graphical analysis was obtained to compare real time and theoretical costs. The graph is very useful to track the units produced costs behavior. This project can be applied to many automation and/or semi-automation companies, and it can be very useful because it can provide production cost data in real time and with that information management can make informed decisions.
