Publication Eficacia de dos herbicidas para el control de la acacia blanca [Albizia procera (Roxb). Benth] en pastos.(2010) Almodóvar-Rodríguez, Luis E.; Lugo-Torres, María de L.; College of Agricultural Sciences; Rodríguez Edwin, Abreu; Vázquez Wilfredo, Robles; Department of Crops and Agro-Environmental Sciences; Morales Melvin, PagánTwo experiments were conducted in privately-own farms in Southwestern Puerto Rico to evaluate control methods for white siris [Albizia procera (Roxb). Benth]. The first experiment took place at the municipality of San German. In such experiment, two herbicides, picloram + 2,4-D and dicamba + 2,4-D, at three rates (0%, 25% and 50% dilution in diesel) were evaluated by using two application methods (injection hatchet and machete). The most effective method with 97% of control was picloram at 50% applied with the injection hatchet. Good control of the trees with 74% was also achieved by using dicamba + 2,4-D at 50% applied with the injection hatchet. The second experiment took place at the municipality of Lajas. In this one, variable amounts of picloram at 50% were applied to trees depending on their trunk diameter at breast height (dbh). Trees having an average of 10 cm of trunk diameter received 10 ml of herbicide; those averaging 15cm of trunk diameter received 15 ml of herbicide and trees with 20 cm in diameter received 20 ml of herbicide. For this experiment, the herbicide was diluted in water and the injection hatchet was used as the delivery system. Effective control of 96% for white siris trees was achieved within all treatments at 14, 32 and 48 weeks after the herbicide application.
