Publication Transformación de la profesión de los recursos humanos en Puerto Rico: retos y competencias necesarias(2007) Valdéz-Díaz, Marjorie; Colón-de Toro, Marta; College of Business Administration; Irizarry, María de los Ángeles; Quiñones, Eva Zoé; Department of Business Administration; González Quevedo, AntonioThis work presents the results of a research regarding the competencies that Human Resources professionals are expected to have in order to effectively manage the challenges that the profession presents today. The competency model for Human Resources professionals developed by Dave Ulrich in 2005 was used. The investigation was performed using a questionnaire completed by forty one (41) members of the Society of Human Resources Management, Puerto Rico Chapter, which measured how pertinent is the Human Resources body of knowledge to professionals in Puerto Rico, and how competent they are to effectively perform the expected roles and functions. The results reflect what participants consider important, and do have the expertise and the competencies that the body of knowledge in Human Resources requires. In addition, although the majority have formal degrees in the field, professional certification is not common among them.
