This quasi-experimental study presents the knowledge and perception of the agricultural agents before and after of participating in a training about care and handling of Boer goats in Puerto Rico. An educational manual based on information adapted to the island conditions was developed as a result of a case study on management carried out in a Boer goat herd. It was observed that goat farmer were using management practices not adapted to the island. Using a questionnaire to measure the objectives, it was found that the participating agricultural agents, mostly with 11 years of experience, have not worked on goat farmers projects and would be willing to receive training on the subject. The study reflected a positive change in the knowledge of agricultural agents, although their perception remained neutral after participating in the training. They fully agree that “good managements practices could make a difference in production” and that “the goat industry could be viable in Puerto Rico.” Participants rethought their perception of the barriers may be due to the new knowledge acquired.
