Publication Análisis del decaimiento del protón a través de los canales p -> e^+rho^0 Y p -> e^+K_s^0 en el experimento DUNE(2020-06-24) Santos-Maldonado, Marvin G.; Méndez-Mella, Héctor; College of Arts and Sciences - Sciences; Santana-Colón, Samuel; Ramírez, Juan Eduardo; Department of Physics; Rodríguez-Álamo, BetzabéThe proton has long been considered a stable particle, but many Grand Unification Theories (GUTs unifying three of nature's four fundamental forces) would allow protons and neutrons (baryons) to decay, violating the conservation of baryonic number through interactions beyond the Standard Model. These theories predict the decay of the proton with a lifetime approximately of 10^32 years, much greater than the age of the universe (13.8x10^9 years), which is difficult to measure. In the last 50 years different experiments have been carried out with the intent to observe signs of proton decay, but to this day no signal could be detected, observing a signal would be the only process known in nature that would violate conservation of the baronic number. In this work, a proton decay analysis for channels p -> e^+rho^0 and p -> e^+K_s^0 is performed using simulation of decay events in the experiment "The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment" (DUNE).
