The CMS experiment at the LHC in Geneva, Switzerland collects data from proton-proton collisions that require more granular pixel devices to accurately determine the 3D location of proton-proton vertices and decay points of secondary particles. To address this challenge, the HL-LHC will require several improvements to the CMS apparatus, including building a new silicon tracking detector. This research focuses on the operation, performance, and characterization of silicon 3D sensors that will be used to build the tracking detector. The sensors are tested at FTBF by the TFPX team with several controlled parameters to determine the impact of track angle and charge collection. The efficiency of the sensors is studied before and after radiation, and the results show that performance is comparable before and after irradiation, with slightly lower efficiencies and cluster sizes after irradiation. Peak charge is higher pre-irradiation than post-irradiation, indicating that irradiated results are not taken under fully-depleted conditions. This research is a step towards enhancing the accuracy of proton-proton collision data collection.
