    In this document, an islanding detection method was developed. The proposed method utilizes the estimated system impedance for islanding detection. To estimate the system impedance at the point of common coupling, an optimization algorithm minimized the difference between a local measurement and an estimate of an equivalent power system. A fours bus power system (interconnected to the main grid), featuring two Distributed Generators (DG’s) and one load, was represented by its Thevenin Equivalent at the point of common coupling. Several cases, simulating the formation of power systems islands were analyzed and results presented.
