This research analyzes the determinants OF the demand for housing in Puerto Rico. These factors include price for housing, income, financing, interest rates and discrimination issues. Information from the 2000 Population Census 2000 was analyzed and a study conducted by the Census in 2005-07. Based on this information and focusing on workingclass families with low income, determining qualifications for social housing, demand for this particular group was determined for the present as well as for the years 2005-2025. To obtain these results, the statistical tools used were: projections, extrapolations and regressions. The results generally show that between 30% to 75% of families suffered from shortages for desired housing, in the metropolitan areas studied. One positive point in the investigation shows that at least 10% to 15% of families were in a better position or economic status.
