This quantitative research sought to determine and describe the knowledge and perception of 76 coffee farmers on high-quality coffee in the municipalities of Adjuntas, Lares, and Utuado, Puerto Rico. Among the findings, it can be said that the coffee farmers of these municipalities own their farm averaging a size of 10 cuerdas (1 cuerda = 0.97 acres) planted mostly in Limaní variety. Participating farmers have an average age of 61 years. Farmers age 50 and over responded that coffee farming is the main economic income on their household. These farmers expressed their perception of coffee quality, but they lack detailed knowledge and are unaware of the programs and services offered by many agencies or entities. However, they showed interest in receiving training on high-quality coffee. As a result, farmers stated that they would like to participate more frequently in workshops, trainings or field days. The preferred time for workshops and trainings was during the morning, any day of the week in the months when they are not harvesting coffee (February to July). It was also shown that most are interested in eventually registering a coffee brand of their own.
