Publication Restricted Influencia del grado de anisotropía de permeabilidad en la estabilidad de taludes homogéneos(2010-05) Ramírez Fulcar, César A.; Pando López, Miguel A.; College of Engineering; Ramos Cabeza, Ricardo; Camacho Padrón, Beatriz I.; Department of Civil Engineering; Portela Gauthier, GenockThis research investigated the influence of the degree of anisotropy of soil permeability on the stability of homogeneous, saturated slopes. The research focused primarily on the case of infinite slopes; however, a simple homogeneous finite slope case was also evaluated. Despite the ample published evidence that most soils have some degree of anisotropy of permeability, most slope stability charts and analysis methods assume soils with isotropic permeability. Thus, this research presents the derivation of a closed-form expression and charts to compute the factor of safety of infinite slopes for the more general condition of anisotropic permeability. Overall the results show that the factor of safety of infinite and finite slopes greatly depends on the degree of anisotropy. The derived closed-form equation, and associated stability charts, incorporate this dependency in an explicit form for infinite slopes. For finite slopes detailed coupled seepage and slope stability analyses are needed to effectively incorporate this important effect.
