Publication Efectos de un programa de reducción de estrés basado en "mindfulness" (MBSR) en entrenadores deportivos del Albergue Olímpico de Puerto Rico(2022-05-16) Rodríguez Moya, Ariana M.; Quiñones, Carlos E.; College of Arts and Sciences - Art; Torres-Ramos, Carlos; Mendoza-Martínez, Efrank; Department of Kinesiology; Rivera, Rosita L.Stress is the result of the appearance of psychosocial risk factors that by themselves have a high probability of significantly affecting medium and long-term health and functioning of the person (Niño & Osorio, 2017). Sports coaches are affected by high levels of stress due to factors related to their work, this in turn leads sports coaches to face emotions such as anger, shame, indignation, and frustration (Longshore & Sachs, 2015; Fletcher & Scott, 2009). Mindfulness, which is bringing one's attention to the experiences one is feeling in the present moment, and accepting them without judging, helps prevent emotional exhaustion and is positively related to job satisfaction (Hülsheger, Alberts, Feinholdt, & Lang, 2013; Vasquez-Dextre, 2016). Mindfulness practice allows people to be able to identify their own sensations, emotions, and thoughts at every moment without the need to judge and act to these stimuli that causes stress (Vásquez-Dextre, 2016). The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a mindfulness-based stress reduction program on behavioral change on cognitive and affective responses, measured through questionnaires to sports coaches from “Albergue Olímpico” of Puerto Rico. The following hypotheses were formulated: The alternative hypothesis; Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) will have changes in the reduction of stress, exhaustion, and poor emotional management in the sports coaches. The null hypothesis: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) will not have changes in the reduction of stress, exhaustion, and poor emotional management in the sports coaches. The following research questions were formulated: 1. What coping techniques do coaches use to deal with stress? 2. What reasons have led participants to want or not want to continue with the individualized MBSR program? The results of the study showed that there was a behavioral change in the reduction of stress, greater positive emotions and an increase in the attention and awareness of the participants.
