Publication Estudio descriptivo sobre el boxeador aficionado puertorriqueño(2016) Marrero-Jiménez, Xianira B.; Rodríguez-Nogueras, Enid A.; College of Arts and Sciences - Arts; Quiñones Padovani, Carlos; Silva, Manuel; Department of Kinesiology; Matos, AbigailThe intent of this study is to form an informative, descriptive and detailed base about the profiles of amateur Puertorrican boxers and show the frequency and variety of injuries. According to the data collected, the majority of the amateur boxers in Puerto Rico are males (85.3% (n=239)), between the ages of 15 to 26 and their boxing weight was the Welter Weight with 38.9%. The demographics show that 24.3% lived in the San Juan metropolitan area and their academic background was comprised of Technical Degrees, Associates Degrees and Baccalaureate Degrees. This study evaluated the frequency of injuries during their training and actual combats; it pointed out that the cephalic region of the body suffered the most injuries during the combat, and the lower extremities suffered the most injuries during their training. According to the data, apparently, the factors that mostly influenced the prevention or disposition of the injuries was their respective academic preparation. The participants of this study said they had Technical Degrees, High School Graduates and Associates Degrees.
