Desarrollo y efectividad de applets sobre medidas de tendencia central como herramienta de enseñanza

Students from different academic levels have misconceptions about the mean, the median and their relationship with the dataset they represent that can be improved by using technological tools. Some of these tools are applets. In this project two applets about measure of centre were developed and implemented as teaching tools in an introductory statistics course at UPRM. An experiment was designed where one group was taught using the traditional method and another group used the applets that were developed. An instrument was constructed to quantify the effectiveness of the applets. The findings of this study establish that in both methods the students improved their learning, however, the traditional method seemed to be more effective. Factors such as technological anxiety and previous mathematical experience may have influenced these results.
