Análisis de la velocidad crítica del equipo Canoa de Hormigón sobre la distancia de competencia

The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the UPRM ASCE Concrete Canoe team using the critical speed method to identify training needs. The team assessed aimed to design, build and paddle a canoe made of concrete. Five males and four females paddlers from the UPRM team participated. Performance and work intensities were tested in slalom and sprint races by category for men and women. Critical speeds were compared with iso-performance curves. Finally, aerobic and anaerobic performance parameters were determined to identify training deficiencies. It was found that the UPRM critical speeds had no significant differences with the iso-performance curves. The men's slalom category had the least differences (0.12 m/s). Subsequently, individual needs were identified by category. Overall, it was concluded that the UPRM team had a greater deficiency in anaerobic capacity (59.38%). It was also identified that on average, the UPRM students worked at 75.60% of intensity.
