dc.description.abstract Business cases are necessary tools used in different organizations to present new projects for management evaluation, especially capital investment projects. A solid business case will facilitate the organization, presentation, and justification of innovative strategies. This research developed an engineering economic analysis methodology to evaluate Process Analytical Technology (PAT) implementation projects in the pharmaceutical industry. The developed methodology allows evaluating different scenarios, varying costs, and benefits for a PAT proposed project and can be adapted to each company's cost structure and manufacturing processes. The definition of the methodology parameters, assumptions, constraints, and potential tax incentives was the result of the literature review and recommendations of pharmaceutical industry leaders and tax advisors. Through a case study the ease of using the methodology could be evidenced as well as the evaluation in real-time of the results and any change generated during the project's analysis and its effect on the project's economic evaluation methods. en_US
dc.description.abstract Los casos de negocio son herramientas necesarias que se utilizan en las organizaciones para presentar nuevos proyectos a la gerencia, especialmente proyectos de inversión de capital. Un caso de negocio sólido facilitará la organización, presentación y justificación de estrategias innovadoras. Esta investigación, desarrolló una metodología de análisis económico para evaluar la implementación de Tecnología Analítica de Procesos (PAT) en la industria farmacéutica. Esta herramienta, permite evaluar diferentes escenarios, costos variables y beneficios para un proyecto PAT, y puede adaptarse a la estructura de costos y procesos de cada empresa. La definición de los parámetros, asunciones, restricciones e incentivos fiscales fue resultado de la revisión de la literatura y las recomendaciones de líderes de la industria farmacéutica y asesores fiscales. A través de un caso de estudio se pudo evidenciar la facilidad en el uso de la herramienta, así como la rapidez en la evaluación de los resultados y de cualquier cambio que se genere durante el análisis del proyecto y el efecto de éstos en las métricas de evaluación económica. en_US
