Abstract
Esta investigación examina en el Capítulo I los sucesos históricos a finales de Siglo XIX previos y durante la invasión de la Guerra Hispanoamericana del 1898, que se señalan en el texto de El año terrible del 1887: Sus antecedentes y consecuencias (3ra ed. 1945) de Antonio S. Pedreira, ensayista puertorriqueño de la Generación del 30. También, estudia la Asamblea del Teatro La Perla en Ponce, donde se fundó el Partido Autonomista Puertorriqueño liderado por Román Baldorioty de Castro. Asimismo, en el Capítulo II y Capítulo III identifica la representación del líder político ideal utilizando los marcos teóricos de críticos que tienen investigaciones relacionadas al desarrollo del intelectual en la sociedad. Nos referimos a La formación de los intelectuales (1963) de Antonio Gramsci, además, el texto El futuro de los intelectuales y ascenso de “la Nueva Clase” (1985) de Alvin W. Gouldner y el texto Representación del intelectual (1996) de Edward Said. Finalmente, en el Capítulo IV se valida y se exalta la labor, las experiencias y la importancia de los próceres puertorriqueños: Luis Muñoz Rivera y José Celso Barbosa Alcalá.
This investigation examines in Chapter I the historical events at the end of the19th century and during the invasion of the Spanish-American War of 1898, which are identified by Antonio S. Pedreira, Rican essayist of the Generation of 30 in the text of El año terrible del 1887: Sus antecedentes y consecuencias (3rd ed. 1945). Chapter I also study of the Assembly of the La Perla theater in Ponce, where the Puerto Rican Autonomist Party was founded, led by Román Baldorioty de Castro. Likewise, Chapter II and Chapter III identify the representation of the ideal political leader using the theoretical frameworks of critics who have researched the development of the intellectual within our society. Namely, we refer to The intellectual’s formation (1963) by Antonio Gramsci, The future of intellectuals and the rise of “the New Class” (1985) by Alvin W. Gouldner, and The Representation of the intellectual (1996) by Edward Said. Finally, in Chapter IV the work, experiences, and importance of Puerto Rican leaders Luis Muñoz Rivera and José Celso Barbosa Alcalá are validated and exalted.
