dc.description.abstract This thesis is informed by the subject of race and identity within the works of Puerto Rican authors who live in the United States. Thus, it establishes an argument of exploring the Afro-Boricua identity in the works “cu/bop” by Louis Reyes Rivera and “Negritude” by Jaime “Shaggy” Flores. This is done by establishing and connecting the writers and schools of literature that came before Rivera and Flores and how these authors and movements influenced the creation of “cu/bop” and “Negritude”. Lastly, this thesis presents how Rivera and Flores become cultural agents who celebrate the Afro-Boricua while educating readers on the subject. en_US
