La disposición a adoptar el uso de la tecnología por los agricultores en Puerto Rico para llevar los registros de la finca en aplicaciones para celulares o tabletas

Abstract

This study identified the farmers’ profile in Puerto Rico who are willing to use tablets or cellphones as a tool for the management of the farm. In addition, one determined the variables that can predict the adoption and non-adoption of the applications for either the tablet or cell phone to keep the business records. To achieve the objectives, the data was collected using a questionnaire for farmers in Puerto Rico. Data was analyzed using a descriptive analisis to summarized the data and a logistic regression to identify the variables that can help predict the use of this devises. Among the variables in the descriptive analisis that were significant for the adoption of tablets or cell phones to keep farm records are the following: gender, education, size of farm, total farm income and age. Furthermore, the variables that were significant in the regression for the adoption of tablets were: women, education level and age. The variables that were significan in the regression for the adoption of tablets to keep the farm records were: age, farm size; use of records in the agricultural enterprise; use of cell phone to perform the administrative work of the farm; use of records in the agricultural enterprise; years of experience and use of cell phone to keep the records of the farm.

El estudio identificó el perfil de los agricultores de Puerto Rico que utilizan o están dispuestos a utilizar tabletas o celulares como herramienta para la administración en la empresa agrícola. Además, se determinó las variables que influyen en la adopción y no adopción de aplicaciones de tableta o celular para llevar los registros de la empresa agrícola. Para lograr los objetivos, se recopilaron datos a través de un cuestionario dirigido a los agricultores en Puerto Rico. Se realizó un análisis descriptivo para resumir los datos y un análisis de regresión logística para identificar las variables que influyen al uso de estas herramientas. Entre las variables del análisis descriptivo que ayudan a predecir la disposición de adopción de tabletas o celular para llevar los registros en la finca son los siguientes: género, nivel de escolaridad, tamaño de la finca, ingresos totales de la finca altos y edad. En la regresión sobre la adopción de tabletas, se encontró que las variables que significativas fueron: mujeres, escolaridad y edad. Mientras que en las variables significativas en el modelo de regresión sobre la adopción de tabletas para llevar los registros de la finca fueron: edad, tamaño en cuerdas; uso de registros en la empresa agrícola; uso de celular para realizar los trabajos administrativos de la finca; uso de celular para llevar los trabajos administrativos de la finca; uso de registros en la empresa agrícola y años de experiencia.
