Hongos pertenecientes a la familia Botryosphaeriaceae, asociados a la muerte descendente en mango (Mangifera indica linn.), luego del Huracán María en Puerto Rico

dc.description.abstract Entre 2019 y 2020 se muestrearon árboles de mango de los cultivares ‘Keitt’ y ‘Palmer’ con síntomas asociados a muerte descendente en Juana Diaz y Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, con el propósito de identificar hongos de la familia Botryosphaeriaceae relacionados con muerte descendente después de un evento atmosférico fuerte. Además, demostrar si existe alguna relación entre estos hongos con cochinillas del género Ferrisia. Se identificaron 228 aislados de hongos pertenecientes a Botryosphaeriaceae agrupados en 20 diferentes morfotipos. Los análisis filogenéticos identificaron ocho especies, siendo las más frecuentes en cultivares de mango a nivel global Lasiodiplodia theobromae y Neofusicoccum parvum. A nivel mundial se reportan por primera vez a Lasiodiplodia crassispora asociado a gomosis en rama; y a Neofusicoccum ribis ocasionando mancha foliar y gomosis en tallos de mango. Se reportan por primera vez en Puerto Rico a Lasiodiplodia mahajangana causando cancro en tallo; a Lasiodiplodia iraniensis causando muerte descendente, mancha foliar, necrosis y gomosis en tallo; Lasiodiplodia hormozganensis causando muerte descendente y gomosis en tallo; y Neofusicoccum mangiferae causando muerte descendente y mancha foliar. No se pudo observar transmisión alguna de Botryosphaeriaceae a través de cochinillas Ferrisia sp., con la metodología utilizada. Los análisis de probabilidad de Wilcoxon sugieren que al menos uno de los factores climáticos estudiados como temperatura máxima, temperatura mínima o precipitación, indujo niveles de estrés e incrementó la severidad de Botryosphaeriaceae en mango. en_US
dc.description.abstract Between 2019 and 2020, symptoms associated with dieback were sampled on mango trees of varieties ‘Keitt’ and ‘Palmer’ at Juana Diaz and Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, to identify fungi of the family Botryosphaeriaceae related to dieback. In addition, to demonstrate if there is a relationship between these fungi and mealybugs of the genus Ferrisia. A total of 228 isolates of Botryosphaeriaceae fungi were identified and grouped into 20 different morphotypes. Phylogenetic analyses identified eight species, the most frequent identified on mango cultivars globally included Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Neofusicoccum parvum. Worldwide we are reporting for the first time, Lasiodiplodia crassispora causing branch gummosis; and Neofusicoccum ribis causing leaf spot and gummosis on mango stems. We are reporting for first time in Puerto Rico, Lasiodiplodia mahajangana causing canker; Lasiodiplodia iraniensis causing dieback, leaf spot, necrosis, and gummosis in stems; Lasiodiplodia hormozganensis causing dieback and gummosis in stems; and Neofusicoccum mangiferae causing dieback and leaf spot. No relationship was observed between Botryosphaeriaceae and Ferrisia sp. mealybugs. Wilcoxon probability analyses suggested that at least one of the climatic factors studied such as maximum temperature, minimum temperature or precipitation, induced stress levels and increased severity of Botryosphaeriaceae in mango. en_US
