dc.description.abstract Increases in registered motorcycles and related crashes and fatalities have been recorded in recent years in Puerto Rico. Road crashes are generally associated with human behavior, roadway design, and vehicle type. This thesis focuses on the evaluation of road and motorcycle crash data to identify roadway design factors significantly associated to motorcycle crashes in Puerto Rico. The methodology employed the use of correlation analysis, ANOVA, and linear regression, in combination with a road inspection process. The results indicate that the main roadway factors associated with motorcycle crash rates are the roadway cross-section type and width, intersection density, posted speed limit, the presence of on–street parking, pavement defects, and residential areas. The study also identifies municipalities and road sections with high motorcycle crash frequencies and crash rates that can be targeted for the implementation of educational campaigns, police enforcement activities, and engineering improvements of roadway conditions to improve motorcycle safety. en_US
