dc.description.abstractThis study was an attempt to determine the perception of third grade teachers and school principals of the Educational District of Arecibo regarding the integration of agricultural concepts to the elementary schools curriculum. The descriptive survey method with the questionnaire technique was used in this study. Twenty three school principals and forty five teachers participated of this investigation. The data was collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire. The data analysis demonstrated that school principals have a higher knowledge of agriculture, meanwhile, teachers possess an acceptable knowledge of agriculture, and, both have a neutral perception of agriculture. Teachers are available for integrating agricultural concepts and they indicated that the science course is the appropriate one for this purpose. Teachers use agricultural concepts once a month and make activities of agricultural nature with their students. Teachers have a positive perception toward the integration of agricultural concepts to the elementary level curriculum, but, school principals have a negative perception toward this integration.
dc.description.abstractEsta investigación descriptiva tipo encuesta tuvo como propósito el determinar la percepción de los maestros de tercer grado y directores de escuelas de Arecibo respecto a la integración de la agricultura al currículo de escuelas elementales. En la investigación participaron 23 directores escolares y 45 maestros. Los datos fueron recopilados usando un cuestionario, valido y confiable. Al analizar la información se encontró que los directores tienen un conocimiento alto sobre agricultura, mientras que los maestros poseen un conocimiento aceptable, además, ambos tienen una percepción neutral sobre agricultura. Los maestros están dispuestos a insertar conceptos agrícolas e indicaron que la materia de ciencia es la apropiada para tal fin. Los maestros utilizan conceptos agrícolas una vez al mes y hacen actividades de índole agrícola con sus estudiantes. Los maestros tienen una percepción positiva hacia la integración de conceptos agrícolas al currículo del nivel elemental, sin embargo los directores tienen una percepción negativa hacia esta integración.
