Abstract
Three experiments were conducted to promote the development of suckers in plantain (Musa acuminata x balbisiana var. Maricongo) through several plants growth regulators: 2,4-D, glyphosate, and TIBA. Soil applications were made in the first two experiments and a foliar application in the third. Number of leaves, circumference of the mother corms, quantity of suckers stimulated and toxicity of the growth regulator were among the parameters evaluated. In the first experiment, three concentrations of the growth regulators were use: 10, 100 and 1,000 mg L-1. The treatments were applied individually and in a combination of glyphosate + 2,4-D, glyphosate + TIBA and 2,4-D + TIBA, on a randomized complete design. The applications were made to the suckers after the harvest of the clusters. TIBA at 100 mg L-1 and 2,4-D + TIBA at 1,000 mg L-1 (4.00, 4.08) were the treatments that showed significant different when compared with the control (1.66). In the others two experiments the concentrations of 2,4-D were decreased to 50 and 100 mg L-1, for glyphosate were increased to 100, 1,000 and 2,000 mg L-1 respectively and TIBA remain the same as the first experiment. In the second experiments, 2,4-D at 100 mg L-1 promoted 8.22 suckers had significant difference when compare with the control (4.52). The third experiment, 2,4-D at 50 mg L-1 (7.62) was the only treatments that present significant difference when they were compared with the control (3.87).
