dc.description.abstractThis descriptive study using a questionnaire as an instrument had the purpose to determine the perception of the personnel of Isabela school district about agriculture as a professional career in Puerto Rico. The district consists of 513 teachers and 19 school directors of 19 schools (elementary and secondary levels). The study sample was 85 teachers and eight school directors. They completed the questionnaire prepared and validated by the researcher. The information obtained by the questionnaire was tabulated and analyzed. Results indicates that the majority of the study sample were female, with average age of 42 years old and mainly living in Isabela. The majority had a bachelor degree with an average of 15 years of experience. The majority indicated that agriculture must be taught in all levels of the school system because incorporates scientific principles that are essential for the country economy, and provides work opportunities for students and graduates. With this results the scientific and technical concepts of agriculture must be presented in all subjects and school level.
dc.description.abstractEste estudio descriptivo usando un cuestionario como instrumento, tenía el propósito de determinar la percepción del personal docente del distrito escolar de Isabela, sobre la agricultura como carrera profesional en Puerto Rico. El distrito constó de una población de 513 maestros y l9 directores escolares de 19 escuelas (niveles elemental y secundario). La muestra estudiada fue de 85 maestros y ocho directores. Esta muestra completó un cuestionario preparado y validado por el investigador. La información generada del cuestionario se tabuló y analizó; siendo los hallazgos: Los resultados indican que la mayoría del personal docente pertenece al sexo femenino con una edad promedio de 42 años y residentes mayormente en Isabela. La mayoría ostenta el grado de Bachillerato, teniendo en promedio 15 años de experiencia. La mayoría indica que la agricultura debe ser enseñada en todos los niveles del sistema escolar por que incorpora principios científicos esenciales para la economía del país y provee oportunidades de empleo para alumnos o egresados. Con estos resultados se sugiere que los conceptos científicos y la tecnología de la agricultura deben ser presentados en todas las materias y niveles escolares.
