dc.description.abstractIn this research a methodology based on multivariate analysis techniques is considered to characterize the students attending the course Calculus I (Fall semester, 2006-07) who participated in an exploratory study. This characterization was done with respect to their academic performance and the factors related to it. It is used the factorial analysis and the cluster analysis in the exploration of these possible profiles. Also a technique of analysis of panel data is applied to model the scores of the students in three out of four required partial examinations in the course. The results of this analysis show that some methodological characteristics of the professors and academic characteristics of the students are important predictors of their academic performance.en_US
dc.description.abstractEn esta investigación se plantea una metodología basada en técnicas de análisis multivariado para caracterizar los estudiantes de Cálculo I (Primer semestre, 2006-07) que participaron en un estudio exploratorio. Esta caracterización se hizo con respecto a su rendimiento académico y los factores relacionados con él. Se utiliza el análisis factorial y el análisis de conglomerados en la exploración de los posibles perfiles. También se aplica una técnica de análisis de datos en paneles para modelar las puntuaciones de los estudiantes en tres de los cuatro exámenes parciales requeridos en el curso. Los resultados de este análisis muestran que algunas características metodológicas de los profesores y características académicas de los estudiantes son variables explicativas importantes de su desempeño académico.en_US
